GEORGETOWN COUNTY — Melissa Jefferson put Georgetown County on the world stage by bringing home a medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

The former Carvers Bay High and Coastal Carolina standout earned bronze in the women’s 100-meter final with a time of 10.92 seconds, finishing behind American training partner Sha’Carri Richardson (10.87, silver) and St. Lucia’s Julien Alfred (10.72, gold).

Back in the Dunbar community of Georgetown County, Jefferson’s family and friends held a watch party at her childhood home, and her church, Lighthouse of Jesus Christ, also gathered for her moment on track and field’s biggest stage.
